Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) has ended scheduled B737-500 operations following the type's last flight on Monday, September 5.

The Texan LCC was the -500's launch operator taking delivery of N503SW (msn 24180) back in February 1990. Since then it has operated a total of twenty-five of the type with only five remaining in service at the time of retirement.

Though predominantly a B737 NextGen operator, Southwest still maintains a large B737 Classic fleet in the form of 104 B737-300s. As it stands, the -300s are scheduled to be phased out by the end of the third quarter of 2017.

Southwest also operates 478 B737-700s and 125 B737-800s according to the ch-aviation fleets database.
