Junkanoo Air (JKN, Nassau International) commenced commercial freight operations late last month airline president Christopher King has disclosed.

As of August 30, Junkanoo Air provides cargo flights between the Bahamas, the United States (primarily South Florida), and other islands in the Caribbean including Turks & Caicos, Haiti and Cuba, using a pair of Piper (twin piston) Piper PA-31-350 Chieftain freighters. Plans are in the offing to acquire Beechcraft 1900 turboprops over the coming year.

Junkanoo Air is authorized by both the Civil Aviation Authority of the Bahamas (CAA) and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate chartered cargo and passenger flights. It also is the first Bahamian airline certified to haul HAZMAT (hazardous materials).
