Air India Express (IX, Delhi International) has contracted an undisclosed consultancy to draw up a network expansion plan that could see the LCC boosting its domestic Indian presence.
Airline Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Krisnamurthi Shyam Sunda told India's Business Standard that the proposal should be completed in the coming three to six months.
At present, the Air India (AI, Delhi International) unit's domestic Indian services focus exclusively on flights between Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi International, and Kozhikode. The bulk of its operations are India-Gulf flights aimed primarily at Indian migrant workers based in the GCC states namely the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait.
As such, Shyam Sunda added that the proposal will also include details about an expansion into East Asia where Air India Express currently serves only Singapore Changi and Kuala Lumpur International.
