Edelweiss Air (WK, Zurich) has taken delivery of the first of three A340-300s it will lease from parent Swiss (LX, Zurich). HB-JMG (cn 562) was ferried from Manchester International to Zurich on Friday, September 23 ahead of its planned commercial debut for Edelweiss early next month.

As previously reported, the leisure specialist will deploy the quadjet on shorthaul flights to Palma de Mallorca, Heraklion, Larnaca and Antalya ahead of a December 1 longhaul debut with flights to Cape Town International (2x weekly) and Phuket (3x weekly).

Edelweiss is reportedly also considering using the type to launch ultra-longhaul services to Honolulu, Hawai'i next year.

At present, its fleet includes six A320-200s, one A330-200, and two A330-300s.
