RwandAir (WB, Kigali) has taken delivery of its first widebody aircraft following the arrival of 9XR-WN (cn 1741) in Kigali on Wednesday, September 28.

The A330-200 is one of two A330s the Rwandan national carrier ordered from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) in 2015, the other being A330-300 9XR-WP (cn 1759) which is scheduled to arrive in Central Africa in November.

As part of its plan to leverage Kigali's ideal positioning for a Central African hub, RwandAir plans to use its widebody fleet to develop new longhaul services to China (via India) and Western Europe which will then feed into its growing sub-Saharan African regional network.

The state-owned airline currently operates two B737-700s, two B737-800s, two CRJ900s, and two Dash 8-400s.
