DAT - Danish Air Transport (Kolding) has joined Jet Time (2006), Primera Air Scandinavia and Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia in calling for the reopening of Copenhagen Kastrup airport’s Terminal 1 building, following its closure last year.

According to Check-in, the four carriers have appealed to use the terminal for charter traffic in order for their passengers to avoid congestion at Terminals 2 and 3.

Copenhagen Airport closed Terminal 1, which was used for domestic flights, in March 2015, moving all traffic to its remaining two terminal buildings. As a result, the eleven gates at Terminal 1 are rarely used. While conceding that there are some congestion issues, Copenhagen Airport has refused to reopen Terminal 1, noting that the merger of domestic and international traffic had been requested by both SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Norwegian.

Copenhagen Airport handled 26.6 million passengers in 2015, with SAS and Norwegian accounting for 55% of all traffic. Both have supported the closure of Terminal 1, arguing that merging domestic and international arrivals and departures would lead to shorter waiting times and walking distances for its transfer passengers.
