The Thai government has approved changes to the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with Laos which will allow for increased capacity on flights between the two countries.

According to Thai Transport Minister, capacity on flights from Bangkok to Vientiane and vice versa will be increased from the current 2,100 to 14,500 seats per week as part of the renegotiated BASA. In addition, a total of 10,000 seats per week will be available on the Bangkok-Luang Prabang route compared to the current 1,000 seats. Quotas on the amount of imported and exported goods on flights will also be increased.

The government believes changes to the BASA will cater for the growing number of passengers between the two neighbouring countries and boost tourism.
