The Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications has awarded all thirteen northern Norway Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes to Widerøe (WF, Bodø) following a tender issued earlier on in June.

The routes tendered for included the following:

-Routes between Kirkenes, Vadsø, Vardø, Båtsfjord, Berlevåg, Mehamn, Honningsvåg, Hammerfest, and Alta; -Hasvik-Tromsø, Hasvik-Hammerfest and Sørkjosen-Tromsø (pressurized aircraft now mandatory on these routes); -Lakselv-Tromsø; -Andenes-Bodø, Andenes-Tromsø; -Harstad/Narvik-Tromsø (pressurized aircraft now mandatory on this route); -Svolvaer-Bodø; -Leknes-Bodø; -Røst-Bodø; -Brønnøysund-Bodø, Brønnøysund-Trondheim; -Sandnessjøen-Bodø, Sandnessjøen-Trondheim; -Mo i Rana-Bodø, Mo i Rana-Trondheim; -Mosjøen-Bodø, Mosjøen-Trondheim; -Namsos-Trondheim, Roervik-Trondheim;

Aside from Wideroe, Fly Viking (Tromsø) and DAT - Danish Air Transport (Kolding) submitted proposals. However, according to the Ministry, in several instances, FlyViking was found not to possess the relevant licence required while DAT's proposals were found to be too expensive. This therefore left Wideroe, the incumbent operator on many of the routes, as the only viable option.

The new contracts run from April 1, 2017 through to March 31, 2022.
