The oasis town of Kufra in southeastern Libya has reopened to commercial traffic following a near year-long closure.

Earlier this week, Libyan Airlines (LN, Tripoli Mitiga) became the first scheduled carrier to serve the town with a 2x weekly service from Brak. A weekly service to Tripoli Mitiga is also planned to launch at some point in the coming days.

The airport was closed last year after a student from the minority Tebu tribe, was kidnapped, allegedly by Zwai airport guards.

According to the Libya Post, local Tebus are primarily aligned with the Libyan National Army (LNA) while the majority community in the town, the Zwai, have previously been sympathetic to the defunct Libya Dawn alliance.
