Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) has delayed making a final decision concerning its widebody fleet renewal strategy Austrian Aviation Net has reported.

According to a statement issued by spokesman Peter Thier, the postponement is due to the anticipated cost any such order would entail. In addition, Thier highlighted the continued negative impact of government's Air Transport Levy as well as Austria's high airport and air traffic control fees. As such, given the circumstances, he offered no date for a possible decisive announcement.

Among the types under consideration are the B777, A330, and A350 Families of aircraft.

The Lufthansa Group unit currently operates six B767-300(ER)s and five B777-200(ER)s with each type's average age sitting at 20.9 and 16.2 years respectively. As reported in September, Austrian will lease a sixth B777-200(ER) (sourced from AerCap) with delivery scheduled for the summer 2018 season.
