Vietnam Airlines (VN, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has confirmed a second equity offering with 1.23 billion shares registered for trading on the Hanoi Stock Exchange's Board for Unlisted Public Companies (UPCoM). The first trading date will be on January 3, 2017 with a reference price of VND 28,000 (USD1.22) per share. Trading on UPCoM is expected to herald a bigger public offering in the near future.

After its initial public offering (IPO) in November 2014, Vietnam Airlines raised USD51 million on VND22,307 per share. Earlier this year, Japan's ANA Holdings became a strategic investor with an 8.77% stake. The Vietnamese Government's share is currently 86.16%, which is expected to drop to below 75%.

The national carrier's 2015 passenger figures were up 11.83% on 2014 and annual revenue was up 5.44%. It has the highest share of Vietnamese air traffic, with 39% of passenger capacity. The next carriers are VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi Noi Bai International) with 28% and Vietnam Airlines low-cost carrier Jetstar Pacific (Ho Chi Minh City) with 13%.
