Jetstar Japan (GK, Tokyo Narita) has announced it has deferred the launch of its Tokyo Narita-Shanghai Pudong, China service owing to congestion at the Chinese metropolitan gateway.
The 4x weekly service was due to have commenced on January 23. However, the LCC said in a statement issued to the Japanese media on Tuesday, January 10, that the relevant Chinese regulatory authority had not allocated it the permissions needed to start flights.
Given its high level of congestion, Shanghai Pudong International Airport is classed by IATA as a Level 3 facility where the allocation of take-off/landing slots is overseen by a central authority, in this case, the Air Traffic Management Bureau in the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
As it stands, the route's launch has now been postponed indefinitely.
