Russia's Minister of Transport, Maxim Sokolov, says proposals concerning the resumption of passenger flights to Egypt have been dispatched to the North African state's government.

Russia terminated all flights between the two countries following the fatal bombing of a MetroJet (Russian Federation) A321-200 over the Sinai Peninsula in October 2015. Since then, Moscow has demanded Cairo dramatically improve the overall quality of safety annd security oversight at Egypt's airports before passenger flights can resume.

According to the Interfax-Tourism news agency, Sokolov said the proposals dispatched entail starting with regular flights to Cairo International first wIth Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh charters to follow at a later date.
