Alitalia (AZA, Rome Fiumicino) has officially confirmed its maiden B777-300(ER) will arrive later this summer in August. No further details concerning the aircraft's proposed route network were revealed although it is believed it will be sourced from one of Alitalia's fellow Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) equity partners.

The Italian carrier's mainline widebody operations currently hinge on a fleet of fourteen A330-200s and ten B777-200(ER)s used on flights from its Rome Fiumicino hub to destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Brazil, China, South Korea, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran. From its Milan Malpensa hub, Alitalia offers widebody services to Abu Dhabi International, New York JFK, and Tokyo Narita.
