Cargolux (CV, Luxembourg) is planning to venture into the ACMI/wet-lease cargo segment as it seeks out new revenue sources to supplement its mainline dedicated-freighter operations.

In an interview with Lloyd’s Loading List, an airline spokeswoman said the Luxembourg-based operator had already conducted a study into the wet-lease market with the project set to proceed this year.

"...it is a project that we have initiated and that will be developed this year. We are currently in the preparation phase for commencing ACMI services,” she said, adding that Cargolux already has the flexibility to match demand to capacity. “In developing this business, a lot will depend on the value proposition that Cargolux is able to put onto the table.”

Cargolux currently operates a relatively young freighter fleet of two B747-400(ERF)s, six B747-400(FSCD)s, and fourteen B747-8(F)s on scheduled cargo flights to sixty-six destinations across the world. Its Cargolux Italia (C8, Milan Malpensa) unit currently has four B747-400(FSCD)s on its AOC while Cargolux China (Zhengzhou) is still a work in progress.
