Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf) has named Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) as the launch operator for the EMB195-E2 with the type's Entry Into Service (EIS) scheduled for the first half of 2019.

“Azul played a key role in the E195-E2 development, actively participating in the design specification of the aircraft and helping Embraer design the most efficient single-aisle aircraft in the market today,” John Slattery, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation, said. “The significance of having Azul aboard the E2 Program and to now identifying them the launch operator can be summarized in two words: trust and partnership.”

Azul has up to fifty E195-E2s on order from Embraer including thirty firm orders and twenty purchase rights. Azul will configure its E195-E2s with 130 seats in a single-class layout.

The largest operator of the current-generation E195 in the world, Azul has a total of sixty-four in service alongside ten E190s.

The E-Jets E2 backlog currently numbers 275 firm orders, in addition to Letters of Intent, options and purchase rights covering another 415 aircraft, totaling 690 commitments from airlines and leasing companies.

Last month, Norway's Widerøe (WF, Bodø) was named the E190-E2's launch operator with delivery of its maiden aircraft of the type scheduled for the first half of 2018.
