The Nigerian government has rescinded a ban on helicopter traffic to Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport announced earlier this week by the West African state's National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno.

According to ThisDay, Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, told a press conference this week the decision to revoke the ban came after a review of the airport's security protocols.

While rotary-wing aircraft can now resume service to the Nigerian capital airport, commercial fixed-wing traffic is still banned on account of the ongoing runway upgrade works. While most domestic Nigerian carriers have opted to use Kaduna as an alternative airfield for the duration of the works, most international carriers, excluding Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International), have not and have thus canceled their respective Abuja services until the main facility reopens.
