Beijing Capital Airport will partially restrict operations next month on account of the closure of one of its three runways - 18L/36R - owing to necessary resurfacing works.

A NOTAM issued earlier this month indicates the closure will run from April 2 to 29 with most traffic being diverted to the airfield's two other tracks, 18R/36L and 01/19. Additional aircraft movement delays are expected given night-time restrictions in force on runway 01/19, the notice said.

An estimated 20% of flights will be cancelled over the period affecting nineteen passenger and cargo airlines such as Air China, China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Capital Airlines (China), Lucky Air (China), and Chongqing Airlines.

For the duration of the works, the airport will be restricted to seventy flights per hour during rush hour amounting to a total of roughly 1,430 flights per day. Freight flights also will be affected.
