Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) has been awarded two more take-off and landing slots at Long Beach by the city's municipality a press release has said.

The slots, which will be available for use from August 1, 2017, were relinquished by American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) following its decision to scale back its Long Beach services from February 16 onwards.

The municipality said that although Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) and JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) had expressed in the slots, it had chosen to allocate them to Southwest given its status as a “new entrant carrier” at the airport.

It is recalled that in April last year, the municipality awarded nine newly established slots to Southwest (four), jetBlue (three), and Delta (two). According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Southwest is Long Beach's second-most prominent carrier offering 5,434 seats per week (11.43%). The most prominent, jetBlue, offers 38,550 (81.08%).
