Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) is set to initiate its Connecting Flights hub project the Irish budget carrier's Chief Marketing Officer, Kenny Jacobs, has announced.

Unveiling Year Four of Ryanair's “Always Getting Better” programme, Jacobs said the scheme would make it possible to book transfer connections within its own network before extending it to those of partner airlines.

"As we expand the Ryanair route network, customers will for the first time be able to book connecting Ryanair flights on the Ryanair.com website, with a feeder flight service with other airlines following later this year," he said.

According to Bloomberg, Jacobs told the press conference in London the first Ryanair base to be part of the scheme is Rome Fiumicino. The Italian capital gateway will serve as a test case for the new strategy before it is rolled out to other airports around Europe.

Ryanair's plans to supply longhaul operators Norwegian (Oslo Gardermoen) and Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International) with regional European traffic feed may also kick in in September this year.
