The Nepali government has confirmed that a Request For Proposals (RFP) concerning the provision of strategic management services to Nepal Airlines (RA, Kathmandu) has garnered only a single response.

Last month, the RFP was sent out to specific airlines in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Australia via each country's Kathmandu embassy.

However, according to the Kathmandu Post, the joint-secretary of the Nepali Ministry of Tourism, Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, said this week that with the passing of an April 17 deadline, only one firm had submitted a proposal - Lufthansa Consulting.

It is recalled that the German firm was one of twenty-one foreign firms that, in September 2015, submitted Letters of Intent (LOI) to provide the airline with management services during the first phase of its restructuring programme. The plan, however, was never put into action given government concerns over costs.

Lamichhane said Lufthansa Consulting's proposal will now be studied by a government committee before being forwarded to cabinet if found suitable.

"If the Cabinet deems Lufthansa’s proposal appropriate, the Tourism Ministry will initiate negotiations with the German company," he said.
