Air Malta (KM, Malta International) has announced it will resume scheduled passenger services to North Africa towards the end of the current quarter of the year.

In a statement, Air Malta said flights to Tunis, Tunisia, would start from June 26, 2017 onwards.

“We have been following the situation in North Africa every day," Paul Sies, Air Malta’s Chief Commercial Officer, said. "Now that the situation in Tunisia has stabilised, we want to be amongst the first airlines to connect Europe with the country again. Tunisia is a great destination and we are confident that it is going to be a great addition to our schedule as we connect Tunis not only with Malta, but also with a lot of our European destinations."

Despite its proximity to the African shoreline, the Maltese carrier has only intermittently served the continent in recent years. Other than Tunisia, Air Malta's African destinations have also included Algiers and Oran Ahmed Ben Bella in Algeria and Tripoli International and Benghazi in Libya.
