TAROM (RO, Bucharest Henri Coanda) has taken delivery of the first of two B737-800s it plans to lease from lessor Air Lease Corporation this summer season. The first aircraft registered YR-BGJ (msn 63701) left Seattle Boeing Field on delivery to Nottingham East Midlands via Reykjavik Keflavik on May 16.

It joins Tarom's narrowbody fleet of four A318-100s, four B737-300s and five B737-700s. The second aircraft YR-BGK (msn 63702) is expected to be delivered in June.

The two new B737-800s are replacing capacity lost by the retirement of the carrier's A310-300 fleet last year. Unlike its other narrowbody aircraft, they are configured in a single class layout with 189 seats.
