Thai Smile (Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) and Thai Lion Air (SL, Bangkok Don Mueang) have become the seventh and eighth large-scale Thai commercial carriers to complete recertification with the Thai Civil Aviation Authority (ThCAA).

A regulator statement issued last week said it expected to complete the exercise by August 31 of this year. The move to recertify the country's carriers according to new ICAO-specified criteria comes after the organization red-flagged Thailand back in mid-2016 citing poor regulatory oversight. As such, the ThCAA will use the successful recertification of Thailand's airlines as the basis for its upliftment during its next ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICAO).

Other operators that have already successfully resecured their AOCs include Thai Airways International, Nok Air, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, and NokScoot.
