Far Eastern Air Transport (Taipei Sung Shan) has revised its McDonnell Douglas fleet renewal plans and has now embraced Airbus over Boeing as originally proposed three years ago.

During an unveiling ceremony for the Taiwanese carrier's maiden ATR72-600 - B-28068 (msn 1110) - on Tuesday, July 26, Chief Operating Officer Tseng Chin-chih said FEAT would replace its five MD-82s and three MD-83s with nine ATR - Avions de Transport Régional turboprops and between ten and twenty A320s or A321s in the longterm. Previous plans had called for the purchase of twenty B737-800s.

According to the Central News Agency, FEAT will take delivery of a fifth ATR72-600 next year adding to the four already sourced from Nordic Aviation Capital. Thereafter, it plans to purchase two A320s or A321s to operate on cross-strait and international flights during the fourth quarter of 2018.

FEAT offers regular passenger flights throughout Taiwan as well as to China, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Japan.
