Mokulele Airlines (MHO, Kona) has announced it will switch its downtown Santa Maria-Los Angeles operations from Los Angeles International to Burbank, located 30 kilometres away.

In a statement, the Hawaiian carrier said the change would likely occur from early September onwards although this is subject to confirmation.

Among the factors stated for the decision include a better overall experience for customers both in terms of facilities and handling as well as increased reliability with flight times.

"This new route will greatly facilitate our operations from Santa Maria, CA to the LA area and assure all our passengers a reliable safe alternative to these destinations in California," Airline president Rob McKinney said in a statement.

Mokulele Airlines currently runs double-daily return shuttle flights between Santa Maria and Los Angeles Int'l using Cessna (single turboprop) Grand Caravan 208Bs.
