Germania (Berlin Schönefeld) says it has adjusted its summer 2018 schedule to reflect the changes in demand seen in the wake of Air Berlin (1991)'s insolvency.

The leisure specialist said in a statement it would expand route portfolios at key locations, such as Berlin where, on account of increased demand from tour operators, it will not only operate flights from Berlin Schönefeld, but also Berlin Tegel where it will also base aircraft.

From Tegel, Germania will offer connections to the Canaries (Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife Sur), several Greek islands (Irakleion, Kerkyra, Kos Hippocrates and Rhodes), Egypt's Red Sea resorts of Hurghada and Marsa Alam as well as Faro and Funchal in Portugal. It will operate a new daily service from the German capital's Tegel airport to Palma de Mallorca.

Germania's aircraft will also be taking off more frequently from Düsseldorf, from where the number of flights to the Greek islands has increased to offer travellers a choice of seven destinations. The Dusseldorf schedule also offers flights to the Canary Islands. And for the first time, Germania has begun flights from Dusseldorf to two destinations in Portugal – Faro and Ponta Delgada.

At Nuremberg, Germania has doubled the volume of its flights to Palma de Mallorca, and the frequency of flights to numerous destinations that were announced earlier this year will also be increased. In Zurich, already-planned services will receive another significant boost with the new destinations of Ibiza, Samos and the Canaries.

Looking ahead to next year's summer season, Germania said it would connect nine German airports with Mallorca. To that end, the summer base at the Spanish resort town that only opened in May 2017, will be maintained and will be used not only during peak season, but also increasingly during low season, including the months of March and November.
