American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has been given the go-ahead by the Brazilian government to proceed with plans to construct an MRO hangar at São Paulo Guarulhos Airport.

A Brazilian Ministry of Transport gazette, issued last week, said the lease contract would be for a term of 39 (thirty-nine) years.

According to Reuters, Amercian will use the facility to carry out maintenance on its fleet of aircraft that frequently visit Sao Paulo. It will reportedly feature two bays for a total investment of USD100 million.

AA currently connects Sao Paulo with each of Dallas/Fort Worth (daily with an B787-9), Los Angeles International (5x weekly using a B777-200(ER)), Miami International (19x weekly using both B777-200(ER) and B777-300(ER) equipment), and New York JFK (daily using a B777-300(ER)).
