Porter Airlines (P3, Toronto Billy Bishop City Centre) has announced it will open a crew base at Thunder Bay in January 2018. The facility will enable further growth for the carrier in Northern Ontario.

"Thunder Bay is a significant Northern Ontario centre that is very important to Porter's network," Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines, said. "The ability to base crew there allows us to hire people who value their northern connections and also want an opportunity to fly larger aircraft to more locations."

Porter has operated in Thunder Bay since 2008. According to the ch-aviation route database, Porter's current Thunder Bay network extends to Fredericton, Halifax, Moncton, Mont Tremblant, Montréal Trudeau, Ottawa International, Saint John, St. John's, all of which are served via Toronto Billy Bishop City Centre.
