Niki (Austria) (Vienna) has dismissed a bankruptcy claim brought against it by a tour operator, saying that the bill in question has been paid.

"We have reviewed the relevant post, and the claim has been settled. We thus assume that the proceedings can be closed," the airline told Reuters.

The claim from the unnamed tour operator is for the relatively small sum of EUR116,391 (USD140,000). However, Austria's Kurier reports that Niki has EUR69 million (USD83 million) tied up with its parent company Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel), which is currently facing insolvency. This could mean that Niki is over-indebted by approximately EUR46.5 million (USD56 million).

Air Berlin's fate – and thus also Niki's – is due to be determined by administrators by September 25.
