St. Maarten airport re-opened to commercial operations on October 10, following the devastation caused by hurricanes Irma and Maria, but airport officials say that repairs are still underway.

"Of course, we're not back up 100%, but we recognize that the way the airport goes, so goes the island," said Michael Hyman, Acting CEO of The Princess Juliana International Airport, in a press release.

As the terminal building is being rebuilt, a makeshift hall with kiosks is currently providing passengers with food and beverages. Hyman also advised that while all airlines have said that they will resume flights to the island, some will operate on reduced schedules.

St. Thomas Cyril E. King airport on the US Virgin Islands reopened on September 28, although only to limited operations, after it too was severely affected by the hurricanes. The airport at St. Croix Henry E. Rohlsen was reopened on October 5.

In Cuba, the Santa Clara de Cuba airport welcomed JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) and American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) on September 25, after being closed for fourteen days.

Providenciales and Grand Turk Island airports were back to normal on September 23.

Meanwhile, on Barbuda Codrington, repairs to Codrington airport have been hampered by the presence of feral donkeys. British charity The Donkey Sanctuary has flown in an emergency team to help locals deal with the animals.
