Vueling Airlines (VY, Barcelona El Prat) has received a EUR900,000 (USD1.06 million) contract for Asturias-London Gatwick services from the local Spanish government.

According to the tender documentation made public in the European Union database on November 11, 2017, the contract with the Spanish low-cost carrier was awarded on October 1, 2016 and is valid for 24 months. The total value is split into EUR83.333 in 2016, EUR500.000 in 2017 and EUR416.667 in 2018.

The carrier is tasked with promoting the region of Asturias on the flights.

Vueling currently offers 3x weekly flights from the airport in northern Spain near the cities of Gijon and Oviedo to London Gatwick using an A320-200. Other airlines connecting Asturias to London are Iberia (3x weekly service to London Heathrow) and easyJet (3x weekly service to London Stansted).
