ToMontenegro (Podgorica) has selected the consulting unit of Lufthansa Systems to advise it during its setting-up and launch phases.

The new Montenegrin flag carrier told public news agency Mina that while its tender attracted bids from many of the world's leading aviation consultancies, Lufthansa System was selected due to the company's experience with multiple airlines of similar size and scope. The contract could even start as early as month-end, it added.

According to tender requirements, Lufthansa Systems will advise the start-up during the certification drive, as well as facilitate "the efficient creation of the airline's foundations according to modern market principles, including organizational structure, business model, a transition plan of key assets from the previous airline [Montenegro Airlines], market analysis, and a commercial plan".

ToMontenegro did not reveal the contract's budget.

Although the carrier has yet to announce an official timeline, it hopes to launch in June, in time for the expected summer peak. It will operate at least two E195s previously leased from GECAS by Montenegro Airlines, which were subsequently bought by the government.
