Aeroméxico (AM, México City International) has signed a letter of intent with DAE Capital to lease twelve B737 MAX with deliveries scheduled to begin in October 2021.

The tentative order is subject to US Bankruptcy Court approval, given the court is supervising Aeroméxico's Chapter 11 restructuring. The carrier did not disclose the specific variants covered by the LOI.

"Aeroméxico continues its strategy of having the safest, state-of-the-art, efficient, and least polluting fleet. The additional new aircraft will allow us to continue boosting connectivity in our main hubs to meet our customers’ demand with the best aircraft, service, and a fare family that meets their travel needs," Chief Commercial Officer Nicolas Ferri said.

The Mexican flag carrier currently operates ten B737-8s and five B737-9s. It has a further five -8s and seven -9s on firm order directly from Boeing, as well as an additional three -9s on order from lessors (including two from Air Lease Corporation), the ch-aviation fleets module shows. It recently cancelled another thirty-four B737 MAX, including both -8s and -9s, that it had on direct order from the manufacturer.

Aeroméxico currently leases 48 out of its 71 aircraft and 37 out of forty-seven E190s operated by its subsidiary Aerolitoral (Monterrey Mariano Escobedo). However, it has just a single aircraft, a B737-800, on lease from DAE Capital, the ch-aviation fleets ownership module shows. The lessor's B737 MAX portfolio comprises twenty-one B737-8s leased to American Airlines (17) and GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (four).
