Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) has converted thirty A321-200N purchase rights into firm orders, increasing the total commitment for the type to 155 units.
The carrier said the step is in line with its accelerated fleet renewal strategy. Delta Air Lines originally ordered 100 A321-200Ns in 2017. In April 2021, it converted 25 options into firm orders. Following this most recent commitment, the carrier still has purchase rights for an additional seventy A321neo.
Delta Air Lines expects to start taking A321neo deliveries in the first half of 2022, with all 155 scheduled to finish by the end of 2027. It said that "many" of the aircraft will undergo final assembly at the Airbus facility in Mobile Downtown. Delta's A321neo will carry up to 194 passengers, including 20 in business class, 42 in premium select, and 132 in economy.
The A321neo will replace the carrier's existing fleet of 121 A321-200s. Delta Air Lines still has six A321ceo on firm order from Airbus all of which are due for delivery by the end of October 2021, the ch-aviation fleets module shows. The carrier has not ordered any other A320neo Family aircraft but remains a loyal customer of the European manufacturer. Besides the A321s, it has outstanding firm orders for four A220-100s, forty-one A220-300s, twenty-six A330-900s, and ten A350-900s. It does not have any firm orders placed with Boeing and remains the only major US airline without any B737 MAX commitments, although it has recently sourced 29 second-hand B737-900ERs.
