Amazon.com is scouting the market for used A330-300s and B777-300(ER)s to convert them into freighters and expand the fleet it indirectly operates under CMI leases with third-party carriers, Bloomberg has reported.

According to documents seen by the news wire, the e-commerce giant is looking for ten A330-300s and an unspecified number of B777-300(ER)s. The report did not specify whether Amazon would buy or lease the aircraft.

Amazon declined to comment on the development. The logistics firm may reportedly use the aircraft to fly directly from China and thus bypass congested container ports.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, there are currently 103 aircraft that operate exclusively on behalf of Amazon.com. The logistics firm owns just three B767-300ER(BDSF)s (two operated by Cargojet Airways and one by ATI - Air Transport International), while the remaining 100 aircraft are either owned by the operators themselves or dry-leased. The airlines flying exclusively for Amazon.com include ABX Air, ASL Airlines France, ASL Airlines Ireland, ASL Airlines UK, ATI, Atlas Air, Bluebird Nordic, Cargojet, Empire Airlines, Southern Air, and Sun Country Airlines. The majority of the aircraft - 66 in total - are of the B767 Family. Amazon.com does not currently employ any Airbus freighters.
