Avelo Airlines (XP, Burbank) says it is in the process of changing its legal name - TEM Enterprises, Inc. - to Avelo Airlines, Inc. and has therefore petitioned the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to both register the change and to reissue the carrier's certificates to engage in the interstate and foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail under its new name.

"TEM is in the process of changing its corporate name to Avelo Airlines, Inc. to better harmonize the company’s corporate and business names, and for administrative convenience," it said in its application dated October 20.

However, the Texas-based firm said that following the name change, it may continue to use the trade name XTRA Airways (Fort Lauderdale International) and therefore requested the "d/b/a" for XTRA Airways remain in place.

Avelo currently operates budget flights using three B737-700s and three B737-800s (with five more due). Operationally, it is present on the US west and east coasts via bases at each of Burbank in California and New Haven in Connecticut
