Airlink (South Africa) (4Z, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) is to resume scheduled flights from Johannesburg O.R. Tambo to St. Helena at the end of March 2022, more than two years after the service was suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government of the British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean announced.

The date for the commencement of the service will be revealed in early December, it said in a statement.

Airlink will resume a fortnightly service between Johannesburg and St. Helena and a monthly inter-island charter service with Ascension Island on Ascension Island, using an ERJ 190-100AR.

In the meantime, in order to maintain access to the remote island, Titan Airways (ZT, London Stansted) will continue to provide monthly charter flights between London Stansted (UK) to St. Helena via Accra (Ghana), and a shuttle flight to Ascension between November and March 2022. The charter specialist has provided the only air link to the outside world for St. Helena during the pandemic.
