Hungary's Wizz Air acquires additional Luton slots
22.04.2022 - 11:13 UTCWizz Air (W6, Budapest) has acquired two daily slot pairs at London Luton from Vueling Airlines (VY, Barcelona El Prat) and will use them to expand its services to Romania and Poland.
Thanks to the acquisition, the Hungarian low-cost carrier said its annual capacity from Luton would expand by 167,000 seats. It will use the additional slots to add new frequencies on the existing routes to Wroclaw in Poland and to Bacau, Craiova, Iasi, Sibu, and Timisoara in Romania, all of them operated with A321-200s.
Vueling had used the slots for services from Amsterdam Schiphol. Their ownership will be transferred gradually, starting on April 17 and ending on May 25, 2022.
Wizz Air Holdings is already the largest operator at London Luton airport. The ch-aviation schedules module shows that Wizz Air and Wizz Air UK jointly hold a 43.8% market share by weekly scheduled departure capacity, ahead of easyJet with 36.3%. Both the Hungarian and the British AOCs have...
