Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) has placed an order for five incremental B777-200Fs, increasing its commitment for the current-generation type to 14.

"The addition of these five B777 Freighters into our cargo fleet will enable us to meet the growing demand in our cargo operation," Chief Executive Mesfin Tasew said.

The ch-aviation fleets module shows that Ethiopian Airlines' dedicated freighter fleet currently comprises nine B777-200Fs and three B737-800(SF)s. It also took delivery of its first B737-800(BCF), ET-AYP (msn 35212), last week on lease from ICBC Financial Leasing following P2F conversion in Addis Ababa.

The state-owned carrier also operates seven of its eighteen A350-900s and one of its twenty-eight DHC-8-Q400s on cargo-only routes. In March 2022, the airline inked an order for five new-generation B777-8 freighters.

Ethiopian Airlines is by far the largest commercial cargo operator in Africa by the number of freighter aircraft.
