Dutch Antilles Express (Curacao) has been prohibited from entering Venezuelan airspace by the government there. In a statement released on Tuesday May 14, the Venezuelan civil aviation authority (Instituto Nacional de Aeronáutica Civil - INAC) accused Dutch Antilles Express of "failing to comply with aviation safety standards". INAC claims it had "repeatedly penalized DAE for failing to furnish it with itineraries, flight frequencies and schedules", as well as "flaws" in the quality of its service. In its defence, DAE claimed on Wednesday that INAC made the decision based on inspection records issued on January 10, 2013 and April 20, 2012, which listed a number of requirements that were duly met by the airline. DAE said it would ask the Government of Curacao "to take action against Venezuelan airlines currently operating in the island on the basis of the principle of equal treatment," adding that it intended to sue INAC for libellous damages. DAE's Venezuelan network consists of Caracas Simón Bolivar, Maracaibo and Valencia Arturo Michelena International.
