Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) is set to cancel all international flights to and from Santiago de Compostela from December 31 when an agreement with the Galician government to subsidize the routes, ends. In February 2012, the Galician government decided to end a policy of subsidizing airlines who use their airports as a means of boosting the lagging local economy. Ryanair has responded in kind and according to the Spanish press, effective October 25, flights to Milan Bergamo will end in line with the seasonality of the route while Frankfurt Hahn and London Stansted will cease from 29 and 30 December respectively. Should a solution not be found to the impasse, the Irish Low Cost Carrier would still operate from the airport, albeit to exclusively Spanish destinations.
