Zest Air (Manila Ninoy Aquino International) has been grounded by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) with immediate effect on Friday, August 16, 2013. According to CAAP, the budget carrier's AOC has been suspended due to several technical issues and violations, cancellations and the fact, that the airline did not have a qualified accountable manager. Zest operates 11 A320-200s and a single A319-100. In May 2013, AirAsia Philippines (Manila Ninoy Aquino International) acquired a 85 percent stake with 49 percent voting rights in Zest Air with reports saying the two carriers were working towards a full merger.
