Asiana Airlines (OZ, Seoul Incheon) will acquire at least fourteen A380-800s and other aircraft from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) through 2018 as part of plans to fight the growing threat of South East Asia's LCCs. "A growing challenge from low-cost carriers is a stark reality facing almost all full-service airlines around the world," Chief Executive Kim Soo-cheon told The Wall Street Journal. "They will continue to be a challenge for many years to come, but I see a great potential in long-haul services, where budget carriers, by nature, have little access." The Korean carrier currently has six A380s on order of which two are due in June, two are due next year with the final pair due in 2017. The twin-deck aircraft will be deployed on the carrier's flagship Seoul Incheon to Los Angeles International route in July with New York JFK and Frankfurt International to follow.
