Air Burkina (2J, Ouagadougou) will soon expand its fleet with the imminent arrival of two E170s, the airline's majority shareholder, the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), has disclosed.

FasoZine reports that the aircraft are part of the struggling carrier's fleet renewal programme aimed at allowing it to compete with the likes of Tunisair (TU, Tunis) and Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Airport) on a more sound economic footing.

Air Burkina currently operates three MD-87s, of which two are currently in storage in Olbia, Sardinia, and a CRJ200 on lease from the now dormant Air Mali (Bamako). Out of its Ouagadougou hub, it serves Bobo Dioulasso locally as well as Accra, Bamako, Cotonou Cadjehoun, Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International, Niamey, Lomé and Abidjan regionally.
