China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan) and several other Taiwanese carriers are to be fined by the country's labour ministry for various violations of the Taiwanese labour code.

The ministry undertook a thorough inspection of Taiwan's fifteen active operators in the wake of the crash of TransAsia Airways (Taipei Sung Shan) flight GE235 which killed 40 of the 57 passengers on board earlier this month.

Channel News Asia states that of the carriers, China Airlines and TransAsia are to be fined TWD20,000-TWD300,000 (USD636-USD9,549) for forcing employees to work more than 12 hours a day while their respective budget subsidiaries, Tigerair Taiwan (IT, Taipei Taoyuan) and V air (Taipei Taoyuan), were also found to have failed to establish "certain working standards."

Seven other carriers including Sunrise Airlines (Taipei Sung Shan), Dapeng Airlines (Taipei Sung Shan), Emerald Pacific Airlines (Taichung Ching Chuan Kang), and Great Wing Airlines (Taichung Ching Chuan Kang) were also found guilty of failing to maintain proper records of their employees' work hours.

An inspection of all 34 foreign carriers serving the island will also be undertaken shortly.
