Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (Zhukovsky) is in talks to sell a pair of SSJ 100/95s to EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) Russia's Ria Novosti has reported. The announcement comes roughly a month after the Russian aircraft manufacturer lead a United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) sales delegation to Egypt.

Though the source, who spoke to the newswire on condition of anonymity, did confirm the talks, he did not specify the number of jets that may be acquired.

During May's sales pitch, Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Hossam Kamal said Egyptair was in the market for Regional Jets with ranges of 4,500 kilometers required to ply flights within the Middle East.

At present, the Egyptian national carrier operates twelve E170s through its EgyptAir Express (Cairo International) subsidiary.

"Ideally, we are considering twelve (firm orders) plus twelve (options); their route network requires somewhere around this number," UAC President Yuri Slusar said in May. "We discussed the option of trading-in their EMB-170s, they need to do something with them as they have there maybe 15 aircraft? They are old, and they do not have any economy."
