Kalmarflyg (Kalmar) will replace its sole aircraft, a Saab 2000, with an ATR72-500 as it gears up for consolidation into the soon-to-be established BRA - Braathens Regional Airlines (Stockholm Bromma) brand.

Airline Managing Director Anna Soltorp told Radio Sweden that the upgauging exercise would begin in January with the Saab (Sweden) to be fully withdrawn from service by April. In line with the increase in capacity, Kalmarklyg will also begin hiring new staff, she said.

In January Swedish operators Malmö Aviation (Malmö), Braathens Regional (Trollhättan) and Sverigeflyg (along with its affiliates Blekingeflyg, FlySmaland, Golden Air (Sweden), Kullaflyg, Sundsvallsflyg, Gotlandsflyg, and Kalmarflyg) announced plans to rebrand as BRA-Braathens Regional Airlines with effect from autumn of this year.

In preparation for the move, Kalmarflyg and its sister companies are currently synchronizing their respective schedules to ensure more efficient connectivity at their Stockholm Bromma hub. For its part, Kalmarflyg offers flights from its Kalmar base to Stockholm Bromma with connections from there to Gothenburg Landvetter, Sundsvall-Härnösand, Umeå, Östersund and Visby.
