Tropic Ocean Airways (TI, Fort Lauderdale International) is planning to begin scheduled passenger flights out of St. Petersburg Albert Whitted, located in downtown St Petersburg, Florida in February 2016.

Flights to Fort Lauderdale International, the airport's only scheduled operation, will operate 2x daily effective February 1, 2016, airline CEO Rob Ceravolo has said. Operations are on-board Cessna (single turboprop) Grand Caravan 208B turboprops.

Should the service prove viable, Ceravolo said he hopes to add direct flights from St. Petersburg to Tallahassee, Jacksonville International, FL and Key West International thereafter.

As previously reported, the Floridian charter specialist has already applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for permission to begin scheduled passenger flights as a Part 298 commuter operator.
