Indonesia's Lion Group is looking at the possibility of starting scheduled passenger operations out of Jakarta Pondok Cabe. The group, whose local units include Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta), Batik Air (ID, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) and Wings Air (Indonesia) (IW, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta), says it is currently studying market conditions as well as available and upcoming infrastructure at the airport, located 23 kilometers from downtown Jakarta.

As recently reported, having signed a partnership agreement with Pelita Air (IP, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) parent and owner/operator of Pondok Cabe airport, Pertamina, last year, Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) will commence scheduled ATR72-600 services from the airfield to the nearby cities of Lubuk Linggau, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Semarang, Yogyakarta Adisutjipto, Pangkalanbun and Ketapang later next month.

For its part, the Indonesian government is attempting to develop the airport into an alternative gateway to Jakarta alongside the heavily congested Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta and Jakarta Halim.
